NO MAN'S SKY RESOURCES

Some things to know about No Man's Sky:
First of all, this game is all about forging your own path & discovering things for yourself. That said, the game is complicated & requires a bit of tutorial. The main story missions of the game will teach you how to playaward you many of the game's blueprints for free, greatly expand your understanding of what's going on in the game & most importantly - unlocks many game-play elements that otherwise remain locked. Long story short - it is well within your interest to complete most of the main missions before you go off doing your own thing. At the very least, you should do everything before 'A Leap In The Dark'.
It is worth stopping before you do 'The Purge' or at least before you complete it. Consider that mission to be the 'point of no return' you would usually get before a final boss in a game.

[ IT IS VITAL THAT YOU DO THE FIRST MISSION, 'AWAKENINGS', BY YOURSELF, NOT IN MULTI-PLAYER. SOMEONE GIVING YOU ITEMS SUCH AS HERMETIC SEAL, CAN CAUSE YOU TO NEVER GET THE BLUEPRINTS FOR THESE ITEMS. ]
Good luck on your adventure Interloper...

NEW PLAYERS

LEGACY PLAYERS

Be sure to do the story missions. They will unlock gameplay elements that otherwise don't exist, they serve as a tutorial for the game & they award you tons of free blueprints; meaning less grinding for nanites & digging up salvaged tech.
After every 5 milestones you achieve, switch to the Atlas Path (if it doesn't switch you automatically) and do another Atlas Interface. It is vital that you get these 11 interfaces done before finishing the Artemis Path Storyline. If you get to the mission 16-16; stop & complete the Atlas Path & all other missions first. Completing 16-16 before Atlas Path (and some other missions) can often cause lots of bugs.

If you are returning from before the Waypoint update, I strongly recommend starting over. NEXT, Beyond & Waypoint each massively overhauled the story & tutorials.

You will find it very easy to get back to where you were on your old save, as the game is far less of a grind now. You'll also gain a much better understanding of the game's mechanics, particularly the newer elements added in updates since you last played. Add to that the fact that the newer ships, tools & freighters are much better than the old ones, and there's no real reason to continue on your old save file. Also, there are 4 quest-related items & many player titles that can only be unlocked by playing through the story from scratch.

Use camera mode to stay safe in the early game & scout around for caves, buildings, yellow sodium plants & anything you need.
You do not need to accept the first freighter that is offered to you for free. It's a scripted event & it will be a bad freighter. They keep getting offered for free until you accept one; every 3 in-game hours after approximately 5 warp jumps. Wait for an A or S Class freighter with 34 main slots; or something close to it. Later freighters will be more expensive the less slots your current one has.

Good luck travellers.
