Star systems have different Economy types. There are Trade routes that you can use to buy items in one system at low prices and sell those items at high prices in the next system.

There are seven types of economy and every system has one.

The type of economy that a system has will not affect its economic status nor its Sell/Buy stats.

Each system also has its own "icon" depending on its economy type.

Trade route A: Scientific -> Trading -> Advanced Materials -> Scientific

Trade route B: Mining -> Manufacturing -> Technology -> Power Generation -> Mining

Resources command different prices in different systems. Install an Economy Scanner in your starship to gain access to economic data on the Galaxy Map, as well as showing Trade Surges.

Plan trade routes to maximise profit. Find complementary economy types for the perfect trade route. Most goods are influenced by the economy of a system (for example, minerals are cheaper in Mining economies and more expensive in Industrial economies).

Study the details of Trade Goods to learn where to sell them for the most profit.

The greatest profit for a trader lies in transporting specific trade goods. These receive the largest economy-based discounts and bonuses. The wealth of a system influences how many goods they have available to sell. High wealth systems are also more likely to have high quality starships.
